The Artisans Creation Process
Red clay is placed by hand into a plaster mold. After a few days it is taken out of the mold and sun dried for 3 or 4 more days. It is then sanded and polished with a damp rag to make it smooth. The final step is baking the salamanders in a gas-fired kiln at 2000 F. The salamanders are then given a base coat of paint. When the base coat is dry the artist then proceeds with his or her designs, transforming each salamander into a work of art. Each of our handcrafted works of art will vary slightly in appearance.
